Bollywood’s angry young man left many ladies heartbroken as he tied the knot with actress Jaya Bhaduri on 3rd June, 1973, nearly a month after the release of Bachchan’s mega-blockbuster Zanjeer, which also starred his life partner. It was the time when rumours about Jaya and Amitabh’s love affair were at the peak. So when Amitabh told his father that Jaya will be accompanying the group to London for Zanjeer’s success, Harivansh Rai Bachchan had put forth a condition that they will have to get married before heading for a trip together. Soon the arrangements were made and Amitabh and Jaya had tied the knot in a simple Jaya’s friends’ place in Malabar Hill following which the newlyweds had head to London not just to celebrate the success of Zanjeer but for their honeymoon as well. The two stars officially met on the sets of Guddi and within a few years, they decided to enter into matrimony. The couple officially has been together now for 48 years of marital bliss despite facing many hardships and have set an example for several couples out there.

Amitabh had once written in his blog, “I dress up in formal marriage Indian .. get into my car and want to drive to Malabar Hill where her friends lived and where the ceremony was to be done .. my driver Nagesh, pushes me out and insist he would drive me to the wedding .. the substitute for the tradition horse .. Waiting all set at Mangal, the name of the house on rent on the 7th road JVPD Scheme .. and it begins to drizzle .. neighbours rush out to me .. leave for the wedding now .. the rain is a good omen .. off I went .. wedding over in a few hours .. done .. Mr and Mrs proclaimed .. over !!”

Over the years, they have set new parameters of trust, understanding, and love in a relationship of a husband and a wife. Even though after marriage, the superstar was linked to several actresses, it didn’t affect their married life as trust kept them together. During an interaction with Simi Garewal in 1998, Amitabh shared that Jaya had all the good qualities he wanted in his wife and hence, he decided to tie the knot. He also shared that Jaya is more demonstrative when it comes to showing love or affection.

While talking about his married life with Jaya, Amitabh once wrote in his blog, “You see a picture, you work together, you spend time, you decide, you marry .. you have children, you have grandchildren, and you realise that there are not many that are blessed so .. so you thank the Almighty, the times of the day and the unknown force that brings all this together.” Jaya once said in an interview, “I was introduced to him on the sets of Guddi. I was impressed by him and somewhat in awe as he was Harivanshrai Bachchan’s son. I felt he was different, though people laughed at me when I said that. I expressed my feelings and said he’s going to make it big, even though I was aware he wasn’t the usual stereotype hero. I fell in love with him very soon.” Jaya was the first one who realised that she is in love with Amitabh and it was on the sets of Ek Nazar where cupid striked and the angry young man of Bollywood, fell in love with his lady.

Thankfully, by the grace of lord these two lovebirds of B-town managed to find their way to their soul-mates and are here after 48 years celebrating love, trust, company, happiness and togetherness.
