In a recent Rajya Sabha session PM Modi in a punitive manner quipped the term ‘agitator’ for the people who get involved in every issue and provoke other people as well. According to the Prime Minister agitator could be seen anywhere, anyone who gets involved in matters whether it is the lawyers’ movement, the students’ movement or the workers’ movement etc. is an agitator, they not only agitate themselves but also hijack others. Following this statement political war started, people are openly criticizing and defaming others. In accordance to this lawyer Prashant Bhushan tweeted that calling farmers as agitators is an attempt to discredit them.
Three pictures of a man amidst this rhetoric is shared on the social media. In the first picture, this person is standing in a place that looks like a church and is saying something on the mic. In the second photo, he is giving a discourse on a TV program. At the same time, in the third photo, he is standing with some other people putting green swabs and giving a statement to the media. The man in the above mentioned pictures is Father Jagat Caspar. It is being said that this person sometimes becomes a Christian pastor, sometimes becomes a preacher and sometimes comes to join the peasant movement.
Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) has confirmed the fact that the picture of this Christian Pastor is two years old and Caspar is a Christian priest and often preaches on TV channels, but his claim to be part of the current peasant movement is false. Jagat Caspar is a Catholic priest from Tamil Nadu who is very active in social work in Kanyakumari and Chennai. Caspar in an interview confirmed that he has not yet gone to join the ongoing farmers movement in Delhi nor does he intend to go there. However, he supports the struggle of the farmers.
The first viral photo was taken from a video, which was shared on 1 May 2018 on the YouTube channel named ‘Arputhar Yesu Tv’. The caption of the video reads, ‘Father Jagat Caspar’s speech on Labor Day’. Here too, while giving a speech on the mic, the same statue is seen behind Father Caspar, as seen in the first viral picture. The second photo is taken from a discourse by Jagat Caspar aired in 2017 on the channel named ‘ARRA TV’. In this photo, ‘ARRA’ is written under a logo. The photo in which Jagat Caspar is seen giving interviews to the media wearing a green pot, is in the year 2018 when he was giving a statement on an incident of misconduct with Christian priests.
