The incessant farmers’ protest in the country is the most heated topic. The farmers are protesting against the government for accepting their claims after the three Farm Bills were passed in 2020. A social media post has gone viral, claiming that the Delhi High Court has released an order to free all the farmers who were arrested by the Delhi Police during the Farmers’ Protest. The post was shared multiple number of times claiming the release of farmers held by the police. The post was in Hindi and translated to, “Delhi high court has ordered the release of all farmer friends held by Delhi Police. Hail farmers’ unity. Long live the annadata.” The news is fallacious. According to the confirmed sources, interview with several advocates who are related with the case it has been found that the no such order has been released. The Delhi Police on the other has affirmed this too that there is no such news. Had there been any such news it would have made its way to the front page of newspapers and headlines on the news channels.
On 2nd February the Delhi High Court has declined a petition that sought a release order of the withheld farmers on the alleged reason for causing violence on the 26th of January. The petitioner in the case was Harman Preet Singh. Advocate Ashima Mandla who represented Harman Preet. She confirmed to that her petition seeking the release of people arrested or detained by Delhi Police in connection with the Republic Day incident was not entertained by Delhi HC. 122 persons were arrested and 44 FIRs have been filed by the police on the context of Tractor Rally violence. The advocate further added “The Delhi HC dismissed the petition since nothing is known to the petitioner about the nature of allegations in the FIRs,” She also confirmed that till now, the Delhi high court has not given any order to release the protesters. Thus, the post claiming the release of farmers arrested by the police is absolutely false.
