Bollywood’s upcoming new project Bell Bottom 2021 starring Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor, Lara Dutta and Huma Qureshi, was postponed when cinema halls got shut during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic this year. But B-town’s ‘Rowdy Rathore’ Akshay Kumar has now confirmed and announced that the movie is now ready to be released and will hit the theaters on 27th July. The actor took to his social media handles and posted a clip of his character of a RAW agent walking past a board with the release date written on it. His caption read, “I know you have patiently waited for the release of #Bellbottom. Couldn’t be happier to finally announce the release of our film. Arriving on the big screens worldwide #BellBottomOn27July.”
The espionage thriller was previously scheduled to have a big screen release on May 28 but got postponed due to the second wave of the virus this year. Directed by Ranjit M Tewari,Bell Bottom’s shooting was wrapped up last year, as soon as productions resumed post the nationwide lockdown in the wake of the covid pandemic.
Sharing the release date, Lara Dutta wrote: “#Bellbottom was always meant to be for the big screens. Making a grand entrance into the cinemas worldwide” while Vaani Kapoor captioned her post with these words: “THE WAIT IS OVER! #Bellbottom arriving on the big screens worldwide.” Vaani in a statement excited about the movie also said, “It’s a solid product and Akshay sir, like in every film of his, is simply outstanding! One has to see the film to understand what he has done. I’m grateful that I have a big film coming out now. It’s been a long wait to see my films get a release due to the virus but I’m being super hopeful now that audiences will be entertained by them.”
Bell Bottom is Bollywood’s first film to shoot at an international location after the nationwide lockdown last year. The film is co-produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikkhil Advani.
After speculation, last month about Bell Bottom 2021 release on an OTT platform, the makers of the movie issued a statement, an excerpt from which read: “Nobody other than Pooja Entertainment has the mandate to make any statements with regards to any development with the film. We would like to request the media to support us as you always have and refrain from publishing any information that is not officially communicated by us. Stay safe and mask up. Our prayers with one and all.”
Also unlike the rest of Bell Bottom 2021, Bell Bottom is releasing on Tuesday. An insider revealed that, “The reason is simple. 2+7 = 9. And as we all know, 9 is Akshay Kumar’s lucky number. Hence, the decision was taken to release Bellbottom on July 27, despite it being a Tuesday.”
A trade expert says, “Mid-week releases usually happen on a Wednesday or Thursday. Tuesday release is rare. The last time it happened was 9 years ago, when Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Son Of Sardaar released on Tuesday, November 13. But that’s because it was the day of Diwali. Then last year, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari came out in cinemas on a Sunday, but that’s because it was post-Diwali, and it was the first big film to release after a gap. But in the case of Bellbottom, there’s neither Diwali nor Eid on July 27. I guess the makers are quite confident about the product.”
