According to a viral post, the dates for the upcoming elections in Assam has been declared. The post further said that the dates were also revealed in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. The claim is said to be false as the post claim that the Election Commission of India has declared two dates in April for the Assam Legislative Assembly Polls. As per the fake claim, ‘the Election Commission of India has announced April 4 and April 11 as the election dates for Assam Elections 2021.’
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has made no such claims as the Election Commission will be declaring the dates of the upcoming elections only in the last week of the month. Press Information Bureau has stated that claim being made in the viral social media post is fake. PIB also issued a clarification saying that no such dates have been announced by the Election Commission of India regarding the Assam Assembly Elections 2021. Sources in the Election Commission said the poll panel was likely to announce a detailed election schedule for the five states and UT in February-end or early March. Sources said Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry would vote in a single-phase election. The Election Commission delegation comprising Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora and Election Commissioners Sushil Chandra and Rajiv Kumar, and senior EC officials will spend six days February 10-15 in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. This is the final visit of the EC officials to the poll-bound states. The deputy EC-level inspection has been completed. Arora also said that the polls will be held before 1st May, in order to put it when the term of current assembly expires. The Election Commission has already inspected poll preparedness in West Bengal and Assam.
