An image is taking rounds over the internet, which shows Kerala’s Kasargod MLA NA Nellikkunnu’s car, on which one can allegedly see a flag of Pakistan on its bonnet. The car also has ‘MLA’ written on it. It is being said that this car belongs to Muslim League MLA Nellikunnu Abdul Ahmad Kunji.

A tweet shared by Hindu Seva Kendra founder Pratheesh Viswanath read: “This car is not from Pakistan… It is from Kerala… Kasargod Muslim League MLA Nellikkunnu Abdul Khader Ahmed Kunji’s car.” Kerala’s MLA put Pakistan’s flag

Another user tweeted: “Arrest Kasargod MLA first…Then throw his MLA Post without Any delay. We Are Citizens of INDIA, Not Pakistan.”
Another Twitter user posted this picture and wrote, “Shame on the acts of such Jaichands! This car does not belong to citizen of any other country. This car belongs to Kasaragod Muslim League MLA Nellikunnu Abdul Ahmed Kunji”.
The flag which is seen in the picture is not of Pakistan but of the political party “Indian Union Muslim League”.

However, the flag of Pakistan also has a white stripe with a half moon and a star while Indian Union Muslim League flag is purely green in colour. But the flag seen in the picture has only half moon and star. This makes it clear that the flag does not belong to Pakistan. On searching  further on Google, it was found that this flag wasn’t the national flag of the neighbouring state, but of one of India’s political party namely, “Indian Union Muslim League(IUML)”, a political party in Kerala. The difference between the two is understood when the IUML flag is compared with the Pakistan flag.

It has been said in the post that this car belongs to Kasargod’s MLA. Nellikunnu Abdul Khader Mohammed Kunhi is the MLA from Kasaragod assembly seat and is a member of IUML. But according to Abdul Manzoor, personal assistant of Nellikunnu Abdul, this car does not belong to him. According to a news report of AajTak, Abdul Manzoor said that this car belonged to PB Abdul Razzaq, who was an MLA from IUML from Manjeshwar seat of Kasaragod. Abdul Razzaq died in 2018. The RTO registration number that is seen written on the car is from Kasaragod district only.

IUML leader and former Malappuram MP PK Kunhalikutty said, “I had come to know about the false claim in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Kerala’s MLA put Pakistan’s flag The flag that you can see in the photo is our party flag. The only similarity between Pakistan and IUML’s flag is the colour.”

Speaking about the car, he said that the car doesn’t belong to NA Nellikkunnu, but former IUML leader and Manjeshwaram constituency MLA Abdul Razak, who passed away in 2018.

Previously, Gaurav Pradhan had tweeted “Kerala MLA car painted in green with Islamic flag is secular for Indian brothels pimps but Yogi Adityanath wearing bhagwa is intolerance”

The IUML had on 5th April 2019 complained to the Election Commission about certain mischievous elements spreading “malicious lies” regarding the party and its flag.

Recently the IUML moved to the Supreme Court against the Centre’s notification making it possible for persons residing in certain districts belonging to minority communities such as Hindus, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jains and Parsis in Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan, to apply for Indian citizenship.

Thus, the viral claim is absolutely misleading and prior to this there were several similar incidents in the past.
