The Hong Kong born actress has completed her 15 years in the Bollywood and is well known for her excellent and flawless performances with every co-star. Despite criticism over her acting and stuttering Hindi she managed to be on the top throughout the years. On turning 38, the actress threw light upon her personal life and let everyone in about her tussle.
Katrina’s mother was a Harvard graduate and had a successful career, only to give it all up and join a charitable organisation as a non-profit lawyer. As a result, much of Katrina’s early years were spent travelling from Hong Kong to Japan, then China and France, to Hawaii and finally London. Mentioning about the void she had to face due to an absentee father, Kaif said, “We have grown up without a father. I missed it a great deal. I do feel that sense of loss.” She shared that she is not in touch with him and added, “When I see friends who have wonderful fathers who are like pillars of support for their families, I say, if only I had that. But instead of complaining, I should be grateful for all the other things I have.”
When she was asked about, if her dad hadn’t tried to get in touch with her after she became a star. She said, “No, he is not that kind of a man. He is very decent and comes from a good family and they went their own ways because of issues which are personal. He is an affluent person, so he is not going to come back because his daughter is now famous.”
She further added, “My parents separated when we were very young. We were raised by my mother who did a wonderful job. She raised us with the belief and inspiration to find yourself in the world. Live your dreams and find what is going to make you live life freely. She made us tough and she wasn’t the kind of mother who told us to go to college and get a degree and become a doctor or a lawyer. She herself had found her fulfillment in things that were off-beat. I have one brother. He is a professional skier and a rock climber.”
Katrina has six sisters and a brother. Sharing more about her sisters, Katrina Kaif had shared, “Sometimes I call them up and say, I’m doing a movie with Akshay Kumar or with Saif Ali Khan. The youngest one, Isabelle, is here, the rest of them don’t know much about our industry. So even though they are happy for me and support me, they don’t have that connect.” Being the youngest, Isabelle connects with Katrina a lot more, Isabelle is an actress too and these two sisters spent the quarantine together.
When the actress was asked, ‘Do you consider yourself a foreigner or an Indian?’ she replied, “I am hundred per cent Indian. When I was growing up, I always felt a very strong awareness that I am an Asian. I don’t know whether that’s politically correct or not, but I always felt that I am different and growing up in a country that’s not Asian.”
Being one of the strongest women in the industry the actress shared more and gave a few tips to live a life without regrets. She also mentioned about her past relationships and how one should not hold any grudges or let any relationship consume or disrupt anyone’s own personal identity. The actress also mentioned how one should give time to oneself. Kaif beautifully made a statement in which she said that one concentrate on themself and rebuild their own life instead of concentrating on the person with whom the relationship ended. To which, the actress said, “After my last relationship ended, I was compelled to examine many things about myself and my life and the way I was living.”
“I had to crack before I could proceed to rebuild myself. First, I had to unwind and feel everything that had happened. Then, I had to take full accountability for my part in the equation, what I could and should have done better,” she added.
