A short video is taking rounds on the internet with varying claims, in which several vehicles with passengers inside are crushed under a concrete slab. People have been arguing ever since, some say the video was taken after the under-construction Balanagar-Jeedimetla flyover in Hyderabad collapsed, others say it is a recent incident from Uttar Pradesh.
Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) conducted reverse image test and found that the claims regarding the post are misleading and it is a 2018 video of an under-construction flyover that collapsed in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi. According to a report published by NDTV the incident took place on May 16, 2018, when two pillars of an under-construction flyover collapsed in Varanasi’s Cantonment area. Meanwhile, as the video went viral on February 24, the official Twitter handles of Telengana Police Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and Telangana urban development secretary Arvind Kumar tweeted to confirm that no such incident took place in Hyderabad.
In 2018, a portion of a flyover being built by a state-run corporation collapsed on a busy road in Varanasi, killing at least 18 people as it crushed a mini bus, cars and two-wheelers.
Hours later, people were still believed buried under the rubble of the flyover with several cranes being deployed to lift the concrete girder that crashed around 4 pm on the road that leads to the Varanasi-Allahabad highway.
The district administration said nine people were injured, but unofficial reports put the number at about 20.
A mini bus and four cars came under the slab, officials said. Eight to 10 two-wheelers were also trapped, Director General of Police OP Singh told PTI. Local residents said cyclists and pedestrians also use the stretch of the road about 100 metres from the Varanasi Cantonment railway station. Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner Sanjay Kumar said 18 bodies were pulled out.
Hence, after a thorough research and no such current news it can be confirmed that this is news is fake.
