A toolkit is a document that provides online resources to educate and amplify on cause of the protest and what it is trying to achieve. The teen climate activist Thunberg extended her support to the ongoing farmers agitation in India and shared a toolkit on her Twitter account on February 4. However, shortly after she deleted the toolkit and then shared an updated version of the same document. The toolkit shared by Thunberg advised people on how to show support for the farmers protesting against the three contentious farm laws in India. The original toolkit called for a digital strike, a Twitter storm on or before January 26 and listed ‘carrying out protests outside Indian embassies’ as one of the actions people can take to support farm protests. Several activists are under police lens in relation to the toolkit probe and social media users have been relentless against her.
However a post is going viral, in which Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, who had tweeted in support of farmers’ protest in India, is eating luxuriously in front of poor and starving children. Amid the toolkit case, an image of Greta having food while a group of poor children stares at her through a window is being shared on social media, questioning the integrity of the young environment activist. Some users have shared the picture and used hashtag #AskGretaWhy and called her a fake activist. Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) has found out that this picture has been contorted, in the actual picture shows Greta eating in a train with forest in the background. The image of poor children was taken by Reuters at Bodouli, a village in the Central African Republic, in 2007. The original picture was posted by Greta herself on her Twitter and Instagram handle, on January 22, 2019. The picture was posted with the caption, “Lunch in Denmark.”
The image of the children morphed into Greta’s original picture dates back to 2007. The picture was initially carried in a 2007 report by Reuters on a bush war in the Central African Republic. According to the report, the picture was captured at Bodouli village, one of the theatres of fighting between government forces and rebels.
The image description says, “Children living in the forests sit at a makeshift camp for the internally displaced persons near the village of Bodouli August 23, 2007. According to locals, government soldiers attacked Korosigna (in northern Central African Republic) without warning in January 2006, part of a two-year-old bush war fought against rag-tag rebels across northern parts of the former French colony, landlocked in the heart of Africa.” The original image was morphed and took the internet by storm and caused netizens distress.
