The sun is a star, a hot ball of glowing gases at the heart of our solar system. Its influence extends far beyond the orbits of distant Neptune and Pluto. Without the sun’s intense energy and heat, there would be no life on Earth. And though it is special to us, there are billions of stars like our sun scattered across the Milky Way galaxy. If the sun were as tall as a typical front door, the Earth would be the size of a U.S. nickel. The temperature at the sun’s core is about 27 million degrees Fahrenheit. The Sun has six regions: the core, the radiative zone, and the convective zone in the interior; the visible surface, called the photosphere; the chromosphere; and the outermost region, the corona.
Recently an image of bright surface of the sun is going viral over the internet and is being claimed to be uploaded by the US space research agency NASA. Many netizens are affirming to the fact by sharing this picture and commenting, “A more clear picture of the surface of the sun released by NASA.” Anti Fake News War Room(AFWA) has undeviatingly declined the fact and found the original post of this picture. A website called ‘Fine Art America’, which does online marketing, uploaded a photograph by Jason Guangel on 16th January 2021 and the caption reads, “Magical sun: a special depiction of solar close-ups. “This picture shows the turbulent magnetic field on the surface of our star.”
According to the profile, the photographer is from Michigan,USA. Guangel also uploaded the same picture on his twitter account, captioned “picture modified from the software of the solar chromospheres”. The chromosphere is a gaseous layer above the Sun. In the second line of the caption, he wrote, “The fine line between science and art … is perhaps getting blurred.” This line indicates that the original picture has been edited artistically. Netizens have been sharing this picture over and over again giving the credits to NASA, to which the photographer said, “Thank you for sharing. I am its original creator. This is a picture taken through the solar telescope from the yard of my house which has been processed later!” This viral picture over the internet has nothing to do with NASA states AFWA.
