Indian actor, film director, producer, entertainer & comedian known for his work in Hindi Cinema, Rajpal Yadav ( now, Rajpal Naurang Yadav), recently opened up about the help the actor received from the Bollywood Industry, during the extreme financial crisis.
His upcoming Bollywood project is ‘Hungama 2’ along with Paresh Rawal and Meezaan Jaffrey. The Priyadarshan directorial is a sequel to the 2003 comedy hit. During the promotional spree of the film, Yadav interacted with RJ Siddharth Kanan and spoke candidly about Bollywood’s behavior towards him during his financial crisis. In 2018, Rajpal Yadav was jailed for three months after failing to repay a loan of Rs 5 crore. He was sentenced to 3 months in civil prison for non repayment of loan which he took in 2010 for his directorial debut by the Delhi High Court on 30 November 2018. He was immediately taken into custody by the Delhi Police. Subsequently, in November 2018, Delhi High Court issued a three month prison sentence. Rajpal mentioned that he received a lot of support from his peers in the film industry.
Yadav acted in the Doordarshan’s television serial Mungeri ke bhai Naurangilal as the protagonist. This was the sequel to a similar television program on Doordarshan, ‘Mungerilal Ke Haseen Sapne’
His role in Chup Chup Ke gained him much popularity when one of his dialogues from the movie became a popular meme (“Mujhe sab aata hai, mai isko bilkul sikha dunga”). Though he gained famed for his antagonistic roles, he preferred comic roles. Yadav gave his best and he became a prolific comic enthusiast in Hindi films. His films include Hungama, Waqt: The Race Against Time, Chup Chup Ke Garam Masala, Phir Hera Pheri and Dhol tickled us to our bones.
He won the Sansui Screen Best actor awardfor the movie Jungle in a Negative Role along with a nomination for the Screen Best Actor award. He received the Yash Bharati Award for the film Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hu, Yadav was also given the Janpad Ratna Award.
Yadav, spoke about the period of financial difficulty and said, “I feel everyone should keep their doors open for others… How would I be here if people didn’t help me out? The whole world was with me, I had my beliefs to keep me going, I knew that I had all the support I needed.” Recalling his days of being new in Mumbai, he said, “When you land up in Mumbai, an unfamiliar new city, where you share an auto with others to get to Borivali… Then, when you don’t have money for an auto, you walk to Juhu, Lokhandwala, Adarsh Nagar, Goregaon, sometimes even Bandra, carrying your photo with you, looking for some success, then what are you talking about? If life seems tough, the mission is easy.”
The actor also revealed, about adding his father’s name as his middle name recently. He said, “There is no specific reason. My father’s name has always been in my passport; it is just that now it will be seen on screen. Also, it only happened after Apoorva Vyas offered me a web series and a new film so I thought before Covid I was just Rajpal Yadav, and now that the whole world has turned into a small village let me use my full name.”
Hungama 2 will also star Akshaye Khanna, Shilpa Shetty,Aftab Shivadasani, and Rimi Sen.
